Avraham (Avi) Mendall Mor, IALD, LEED AP, MIES, is a leading architectural and theatrical lighting designer with over ten years of experience. Avi’s work ranges from business interiors, hotels, restaurants, and outdoor events to educational institutions, museums, condominiums and private residences. Key design credits include: The Wit Hotel – Chicago, Chicago Model City – Chicago Architecture Foundation; The Fairfield Hotel – Chicago; Ancient Americas at The Field Museum – Chicago; Joe’s Seafood Prime Steak and Stone Crab – Las Vegas; and an extensive renovation of the Oceanarium and design of the new Polar Play Zone for the John G. Shedd Aquarium – Chicago.
Avi augments clients’ visions and the artistic intent of projects with creative lighting. He seamlessly ensures successful project completion with a fine balance of the complex issues of codes and environmental requirements while managing client budget allocations. Avi’s creativity is enhanced by his attention to detail and thorough documentation. He redefines the boundaries of lighting design by creating an environment that blends the best of traditional techniques with the latest in technology. His LED lighting expertise puts him on the forefront of the green revolution in lighting.
Avi joined Lightswitch in 2004 and named partner of Lightswitch Architectural in 2009. Previously, Avi was a Project Manager for Chicago Spotlight, Inc. and was a Lighting Designer for GPW & Associates and SchulerShook. He has been selected by The U. S. Department of Energy as a committee member and forum reviewer for The Next Generation Lighting Industry Alliance. He has spoken around the country at Department of Energy and other conferences on the future of Solid State Lighting (SSL) and luminaire technology.
Avi received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Architectural and Theatrical Lighting design from the University of Kansas in Lawrence. He is a Past-President of the Chicago Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES). Avi is also a professional member and midwest regional coordinator of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD). Avi is a LEED Accredited Professional a member of the Auxiliary Board of the Chicago Architecture Foundation, Affiliate member of AIA Chicago, and Local and National member of the USGBC. In his free time, Avi enjoys sailing and rooting for the University of Kansas teams. He is also a Chicago triathlete.
